Thank you! Ah I bet you have some lovely memories, I can just imagine how magical it must have been as a child there! Hope you'll get to go back someday 😊
I love these! Especially the Guernsey one. This was a timely post because I just finished watching the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (for like the 4th time). Thank you for sharing these!
Always fascinated to see how work evolves over time. The Guernsey map has such a character and I love it! I had to do a search to see where this lovely island is and glad to learn about it✨
I love this so much. Your maps are so full of life especially the one that mixes your mix media style and digital art. It is really pretty and I hope we get to see more of it. You inspired me to make some maps in the future as well
Really like these maps. Since I am new to your work, I would love to know what on the Guernsey map is digital and what is not. I took Tom Froese map class on Skillshare and enjoyed his process.
Hey, thank you! For the Guernsey map, I outlined the land as a vector shape, then added a hand-painted, scanned texture to it, as well as the water. The illustrations were all analog (gouache, crayon etc), scanned in and added as separate layers. One illustration, the house for St Peter Port, was composed digitally out of scanned elements (I drew the roof, windows & door by hand, but arranged them & added some details on Procreate). The waves & trees were hand-drawn and scanned, the title also handwritten and scanned. The smaller place names were handwritten but on Procreate. I'm still refining my process for the mixed media approach so I'll probably switch things up in the future, but hopefully that is helpful!
Thanks so much for the insights. I want to make more maps, but struggling with the process to get them the way I want them to look and feel. I am going to keep at it.
You're welcome! It's definitely a matter of doing lots of them and refining your process as you go. You'll discover new ways of doing things with every map.
Who doesn't love a beautiful illustrated map?! I remember making ancient-looking treasure maps as a child with tea too. So fun. Lately, I've become a bit obsessed with maps and have been hoarding maps from walks and holidays we've gone on. I started drawing a map for a little nature walk we often do. If it turns out even half as gorgeous as these maps, I'll post it.
Ah how nice, thank you! I haven't read or seen it but I'll have to check it out! 😊
Love your maps, they look wonderful! Hope you'll find some more work in this field! 🤞
Thank you so much! :)
