Thank you for reading my very first newsletter!
I am planning to write around once a month sharing sketches and updates on my work - I hope you will enjoy hearing from me. Please feel free to reply to these emails if you have any questions or want to say hi.
Today's announcement is that I have reopened my online shop!
If you'd like, head over to my shop where you'll find two new prints from my Brittany trip, plus my 'Location Draw at Home' series freshly restocked.
A bit more about my Brittany paintings:
I just got back from 2 months in Brittany. The plan was originally to move there, which didn’t work out, but I did do a LOT of drawing, walking and salted caramel crêpe-eating!
One of the things I drew a lot was the view from my window, which looked over the old slate roofs in the medieval part of Dinan and a beautiful church tower.
Here’s a peek into my sketchbook:
The quote on the bottom right page is from Thoreau’s Walden, which I was reading at the time:
“We should come home from far, from adventures and perils, and discoveries every day, with new experience and character.”
I tried to embrace this whilst in Dinan, literally by walking further each day, but also in my work. It led me to stumble across Léhon castle, with its incredible views over the river Rance, and to go back there will all my art supplies (paints too, which I don’t usually take out with me).
If you’ve been following me for a while, you might remember my ‘Location Draw at Home’ series. It was my way of coping with the very first lockdown. Since I couldn’t go outside, I used a website called Mapcrunch to teleport to a new place on Google street view every day, and draw my surroundings as if I were there.
Even with all the uncertainty, I remember this time fondly because I was able to “travel” to so many amazing places I’d never even heard of.
Well, I hope you enjoyed my first newsletter! Let me know what you think and what you’d like to see me write about next time.
Take care, speak to you soon,
